Terms of use

What this is

RedactDrop removes words you choose from a PDF in your browser, blacks out where they were, and writes a new PDF. There is a free version and a paid one, RedactDrop Pro, which is a single payment of $39 and not a subscription. Using either means you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use it.

Check the output

RedactDrop works on the text of a PDF. It does not read text inside images or scans, and it does not remove anything it was not asked to find. Before it lets you download, it opens the new file separately and checks it; a page that does not pass is not written. That check is a strong signal, not a guarantee: PDFs vary, and a word can be spelled, split or encoded in ways nobody anticipated.

Before you send a redacted document to anyone, open it and check it yourself — search it for the words you removed, and look at every page. You, not RedactDrop, are responsible for what you disclose.

Not advice

Nothing here is legal advice about what must be redacted from a document or how. If you need advice, talk to a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.

Your files

Your PDF is read in your browser and is not transmitted to us — see Privacy. Because we never receive it, we cannot recover, resend or delete a file for you, and we have no record of what you redacted. Keep your own copy of the original.

Provided "as is"

RedactDrop is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will work with any particular document.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tekiba and the operators of RedactDrop are not liable for any loss or damage arising out of your use of, or inability to use, this tool — including information that was disclosed, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss — even if advised of the possibility. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the tool — which is nothing for the free version and $39 for RedactDrop Pro.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you; the rest still does.

Acceptable use

Use RedactDrop only on documents you are entitled to process. Do not use it to break the law, to infringe anyone's rights, or to attack or overload the site. Do not present it as your own product or imply that we endorse yours.

Third-party components

PDFs are read with pdf.js (Apache License 2.0) and rewritten with pdf-lib (MIT), with pako (MIT and Zlib) and pdf-lib's standard font metrics (MIT). Their licence texts ship with the site under /assets/vendor/.

RedactDrop Pro is a one-time payment of $39 USD. It is not a subscription, there is nothing to cancel, and there is no account to create. What you get is a licence key, saved in your own browser. There is no per-page allowance and nothing expires.

The paid version removes the free version's page limit, redacts several PDFs at once, suggests email addresses, phone numbers and card-like numbers to remove, saves lists of words in your browser, and writes a report of the check. The free version is one PDF of up to three pages at a time.

The purchase includes all future updates to RedactDrop Pro while the service is offered. That is a statement about updates, not about how long the service will run: if RedactDrop were ever withdrawn, the copy you have would keep working, because it runs in your browser and checks your key without contacting us. We do not use the word "lifetime", because it would be a promise about a length of time that nobody can make.

The licence is for you or your organisation to use. It is not sold per seat and we do not count installations; it is checked in your browser, and we would rather say plainly that somebody determined to share a key can, than pretend otherwise. What the key protects is that nobody can manufacture one.

Payment and refunds

Payments are handled by Paddle, who are the merchant of record. Your card details go to Paddle and never to this site.

If it does not do what you needed, ask for a refund within 30 days and you will get one — once. Write to [email protected] with the email address you bought with. A refunded key stops unlocking the paid features; the free version keeps working.

Our refund guarantee is one per customer. Buying again after a refund is welcome — you are not blocked, and the key works exactly as before — but we will not approve a second "it was not what I needed" refund. We would rather say that plainly than approve the first and argue about the second.

That limit is on our own guarantee and not on your rights. It does not affect any statutory right to a refund you have where you live, and it does not affect Paddle's own policy if the software is faulty or does not work at all. If something is broken, write to us — that is not the same conversation.

You are encouraged to try the free version on a PDF of your own before paying, so that the question "does this work on my documents?" is answered before any money changes hands.
